Born in Indiana Illastrate had the privilege of being exposed to all genres of music, from soul, 80s rock to hip hop. The hip-hop culture intrigued him enough to start writing rhymes at a young age. After years of performing throughout Indiana, Illa earned enough money to buy his first sampler and beat machine, the rest is history. Digging through vinyl for loops and beat breaks became more than just a hobby, but a vital part of life. Influenced by producers like Marly Marl, the Bomb Squad, Dr. Dre, Dj Scratch, and No ID, Illas sound holds true to traditional hip hop with the use of break beats, heavy bass lines, and soulful melodies. Feeling an urge for growth, Illa packed up and transferred to Atlanta where his stock rose among the Atlanta underground hip hop scene, getting an unprecedented number of spins on college radio, named producer of the year in 2004 by Georgia State radio 88.5fm. Illa has worked with legendary rap group LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND, AKIR, BROADY CHAMPS, AAROPHAT, BINKIS RECS, DYNAS and VINTAGE IMPERIAL to name a few.
